Gather your friends and have a blast with this chocolate fondue!
It is so simple to prepare, tastes absolutely delicious, and is a great conversation starter.
A selection of whatever sliced fruits your heart desires, and another selection of baked goods on the side, plus the bowl of chocolate fondue, and you are good to go.
Fondue is the French word for “melted,” and although chocolate fondue is very popular, it is not original.
The Swiss are famous for their fondue, the original sort: savory cheese fondue. It is a large pot of bubbly molted cheese in which you dunk cubes of baguette of boiled new potatoes. Indescribably delicious.
So this chocolate fondue is the sweet adaptation of the savory original.Word to the wise: either avoid having children in the proximity of this fondue or be prepared for a big mess!
Barring the dipping components, the actual chocolate fondue takes only two ingredients to make: chocolate and whipping cream! You can even make it ahead of time, and just re-heat for 30 seconds in the microwave before serving. I highly recommend using an excellent quality of chocolate, as it is the main ingredient, and you will notice a difference.
The choices for dipping come from an endless array, and basically you can choose whatever you like.
I hear pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate are particularly good 😉
200g milk chocolate
100g dark chocolate
1 cup whipping cream
Fruit (berries, kiwi, banana, mango, ananas…)
Baked goods (mini cupcakes, shortbread, pretzels…)
Peel, slice, and arrange fruit in a large serving dish.
Arrange baked goods and marshmallows in another serving dish.
Cut the chocolate with a serrated knife and place in a bowl; set aside.
Bring the whipping cream to a steaming simmer over medium heat and pour directly over the chocolate.
Let sit for 2 to 3 minutes, then begin to stir to incorporate and render it smooth.
Pour the chocolate in its serving bowl, place it next to the dippers, and serve.
Note: if you make the chocolate fondue ahead of time, you can simply re-heat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
