These burger hand pies are a fun way to eat burgers.
Great as a lunch or for some serious snacking.I used semi-whole wheat flour and oats in an effort to render it a bit more healthy than using white flour.
You can use any of your favorite condiments; I went all-out with the classics: mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, and hotsauce.
I also used a mixture of beef and chicken burgers according to the preference of the eaters, obviously.
For the dough:
2 cups (whole wheat) flour
1 cup oats
3 tsp yeast
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 Tsp powder milk
3 Tbsp oil
1 1/4 cup warm water
+ 1 egg for glaze
+ sesame seeds to sprinkle
For the rest:
6 burgers, grilled and cooled
6 slices square cheese
finely diced onion
finely diced cornichons
To make the dough: in a food processor, process the oats until reduced to a flour.
Add the flour, salt, baking powder, milk powder; blitz to distribute.
Whisk the yeast in the water and oil.
Pour the yeast mixture on the flour mixture and blitz until a dough ball is formed.
Form dough into a ball, lightly oil, cover, allow to rise 45 minutes in a warm place.
Divide dough in half; roll each half into equal sized rectangles (large enough to comfortably accommodate 6 burger patties: 2×3).
Cut each of the rectangles in half lengthwise, and into thirds widthwise, yielding six squares.
Preheat oven to 400F.
Into each of the squares, layer as follows: mustard, mayonnaise, onion, cornichons, burger patty, hotsauce, cheese, ketchup, mayonnaise, top with the other half of dough squares, crimp the edges, brush with eggwash, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake for 15 minutes, let cool on a rack for 10 minutes before consuming warm
